How to Develop a Home with Character

on Jan 8, 2016

What makes a house a home?

I am sure there are a variety of answers to this question, however I doubt that many people would answer
with open floor plans or built in storage spaces, because although these aspects of the home are great and
functional, they don’t necessarily distinguish your home from anyone else’s with a similar layout. The features
within your house that make it a home are often the aspects that are not so functional, yet show a side of
your personality that allows your home to reflect you.

Over the years I have helped home owners customize our homes to fit their unique
personalities. Whether I was hiring an artist for a custom mural in the homes entryway or
installing a custom light treatment in the living room that gave off a soft whimsical glow that
the owners love, these details became what the home owners were most excited to show off.
Custom details within a home make houses unique and are often the details we enjoy
experiencing or seeing everyday we are in our homes.

So, how do you decide what to include in your home to reflect your family’s unique character?
First, consider does the feature you want to include reflect a lifelong passion or a phase?
The only permanent unique features you want to include in your home should reflect
passions you’ve had most of your life, not something you recently got interested in. You
wouldn’t want to build a custom soundproof music room, for instance.

Another question to consider will you get sick of this feature? You wouldn’t want to bring in an artist
to paint a mural on the wall that you will later want to paint over. At the end of the day when it comes
to custom features, you really want to weigh your options before making a decision. At Live
Well Custom Homes we are always open to hear your ideas. We want to make your HOUSE
the HOME of your dreams, let us know how we can do that today.
